This has been a exciting journey with my friend Steve Schmucker aka Scuba to bring to life a new logo that tells a story of Valaric through illustration. This is an image that I’ve carried around in my mind for a long time, holding on to it until the time felt right to bring it forth in a new chapter of Valaric. Since the beginning when I chose to brand my custom made surfboards with a name not of the one given to me at birth, I’ve felt compelled to use the word Valaric. It arose from a feeling and it sounded cool too. Science fiction and fantasy was and has always been an inspiration in my life. Through movies, books and art I’m drawn to the imagination and harrowing adventures, that lead to a common theme of the hero’s journey and self discovery. What is Valaric? For me, its balance, celebration of duality and fearlessness to traverse through new experiences. It’s for you as it is for me.
I can safely say that Scuba and I both enjoyed this project from beginning to end and certainly expanded our perimeters of creative construct. I am grateful for collaborations like these with equally shared enthusiasm all the way through. An ode to the classic hand drawn lams of the psychedelic era of the 60’s and 70’s. May this new chapter of Valaric resonate with you and find you on a path to a bigger brighter paradigm of new beginnings.
